I am a graduate of The University of Maryland where I received a B.S in Information Systems Management.  My academic interest and focus of my studies was implementation.  Implementation is the process of combining people and technology.  Software applications and how they are developed to accomplish organizational tasks and have utility according to the capability of the people who will use them.

I also have a Master of Education degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  My focus is Instructional Technology.  My academic interest is focused in how student self-effacacy, when employing computer technology, can increase persistence and performance of core subject learning.  In essence, since school age children are so motivated to work with computers, this "interest" can be used to increase their learning of Math, Science and other subjects the students don't care for as much as they do for computers.  Another interest is marginalized populations and institutional forces that contribute to inequality.

This is my 12th year in Harlandale.  I am proud to be in a district where we have terrific students and a great staff!  I am the webmaster for Leal Middle School and maintain all aspects of our website.  I provide computer application support to the staff.

I hold two teaching certificates in the state of Texas.  They are Technology Applications, early childhood through 12th grade and Business Education 6th grade to 12th grade.  Currently I help staff and students develop and improve computer applications skills that will benefit them.  Some of the skills students will master skills are information acquisition and validation, internet safety, multitasking and file management.

Growing up, I had many positive experiences participating in athletics.  I learned about myself, about life and about playing a role and being a team mate.  I am proud to facilitate similar learning opportunities for our great students here at Leal.  I coach the Apaches in Track and Soccer and I coach the Lady Apaches in Soccer where we always demonstrate "Apache Pride"

I grew up in the Washington D.C. area.  As a kid I was active in sports, social and church activities.  I was not exceptional in any of these interests, but I always enjoyed being active in what life had to offer.  I learned early on that there are two ways to go in life ... either you can make things happen in your life or things will happen to you.  To anyone reading this, especially my students or athletes, I encourage you to take advantage of whatever opportunities come along in your life.

I am a member of a close knit family.  My grandmother Marguerite Young, a Principal and educational leader, had a considerable influence on me.  She always told me, and she also told all her students at the schools she was responsible for, "It's not how big you are on the outside, it's how big you are on the inside that really matters"  This is moral I practice in my classroom.

I've lived in San Antonio for 13 years and have 3 children.  My interests outside of work are scuba, sports, music, wood working, gardening and travel.
